Solution 1: Check the authenticity of the ink cartridge

Firstly make sure the ink cartridge you are using is an unmodified, genuine ink cartridge. Check the compatibility of the ink cartridge with the printer. Replace ink cartridge immediately if you find it modified or not real. If you do not find any issue after replacing the ink cartridge, then you do not need to continue the troubleshooting process.

Solution 2: Examine the ink cartridge

HP Printer cartridge error can occur due to dirty electric contacts of the cartridge with the printer. Reinstall the ink cartridge after removing it. Follow these steps to inspect the ink cartridge.

Step 1: Turn on the printer by pressing the power button.

Step 2: Open the access door where the ink cartridge is located. Wait until the carriage gets silent.

Solution 3: Wipe the electrical contacts of carriage and ink cartridge

One of the main reasons for this error is unwiped electrical contacts. Follow these necessary steps to clean the electrical contacts.

Step 1: Assemble all the needed items for the cleaning of contacts like clean distilled water, lint-free dry cloth, a paper towel.

Step 2: Open the door of the ink cartridge and wait for the carriage to get silent.

Step 3: Remove the power cord.

Step 4: Take the ink cartridge out of its slot and put it on a piece of paper. But keep in mind that leaving the ink cartridge outside the printer for more than 30 minutes will dry the ink and clog the nozzles.

Step 5: Moisten clean, dry cloth in distilled water and wipe all the contacts from to bottom with that cloth. You only need to clean that copper-colored contacts.

Step 6: Now dip the cotton swab in distilled water to clean the electrical contacts in the carriage.

Step 7: Let the ink cartridge and carriage contacts dry.

Step 8: Now reinstall the ink cartridge and reconnect the power cord.

Step 9: Turn on the printer and print a page.

Step 10: If still HP Printer Color Cartridge Error is not resolved, repeat these cleaning steps for multiple times and reset the ink cartridge.

You don’t need to follow more steps if your printer is giving printouts with accuracy.

Solution 4: Reset the printer

Follow these following steps to reset the printer.

Step 1: Firstly unplug the printer while the power of the printer is still on.

Step 2: Wait for the printer to set idle, then turn on its power if it is not already on.

Step 3: Remove the power cord from the back of the printer and unplug it.

Step 4: Now wait for 60 seconds.

Step 5: Reinsert the power cord in the rear of the printer.

Solution 5: Substitute new ink cartridge.

If your problem is still not solved, replace an old ink cartridge with the new and compatible one. Check the warranty period of old ink cartridge before returning it. Place the new ink cartridge in the slot by these following steps-

Step 1: Open the top cover of the printer, ensuring printer is turned on.

Step 2: Slide the ink cartridge into the carriage when the carriage moves to the right side. Make sure carriage is quiet or idle while doing this.

Step 3: If you want to replace the tri-color ink cartridge, take out the ink cartridge from the left slot.

Step 4: But if you are replacing the black ink cartridge, take out the ink cartridge from the right slot.

Step 5: Now place new ink cartridge in the slot by unpacking it. Remove the protective tape by pulling the pink tab of the ink cartridge.

Step 6: Avoid touching copper contacts and ink nozzles as it can cause ink failure and clog.

Step 7: Slide the new ink cartridge in the carriage while checking that copper strips are facing towards the printer and are at the bottom.

Step 8: As mentioned earlier, install a tri-color ink cartridge in the left slot and black color ink cartridge in the right slot.

Step 9: Close the top cover, and new the ink cartridge is installed successfully.

Solution 6: Replace or repair the printer

If the issue persists, then take it to the service center for the service of the HP printer. If you still face the problem, then the only option you are left with is the replacement of your printer.
